Old Tricks and Online Theatre

A sampler platter of what StrangeDog has to offer, featuring three of our most beloved ol' favorite short plays. A perfect introductory course or a chance to catch these shows again, Old Tricks features three light-hearted comedies playing with the darkness of death, guilt, and the consequences of being alive. Offered in a non-traditional setting and paired with an assortment of the best live music the area has to offer, we hope you'll come spend an early summer night with us and Old Tricks.

For those of you who haven't made it out to one of our shows (or have made it out, but just love watching stuff on your computer), we are now premiering live (not actually live at all, it just sounds good) the StrangeDog online video theatre. Featuring our short films and even a full recording of one of our plays, the internet finally allows StrangeDog to interrupt the peace and quiet of your home, through your computer screen. So fix a bowl of popcorn (a small bowl for the short films, they're just 1/2 hour after all, don't make too much popcorn), sit back, and enjoy our StrangeDog online theatre.

What is going on, very soon

First of all, we appologize that this page isn't updated nearly as often as it should be. That should change soon.

Thanks to everyone who came out for Cave/Men, it was a lot of fun and you can read a review of it here.

We've got plenty of stuff coming up soon. We've got a three-show sampler that will be in the area soon, and an appearance at another event. Details will come soon. Also, We'll be screening Kill Your Friend and Virilia at the MMAC filmmaker's forum on May 12.

Speaking of which, you can watch both of those films online now. Just give those links a click (in the previous paragraph).

Star Ledger Review and Late Night Omnivores

Tuesday's (12-1-09) Star Ledger called Omnivores "no turkey itself, but a solid and impressive effort" from "New Jersey's most promising playwright", "featuring a cast of "three of New Jersey's best emerging actors, and one of it's most beloved old pros." Check out Peter Filichia's full review entitled Brothers in Arms.

We're quite proud of the show, and we had a great opening weekend. We'd love it if you came on out and joined us.

This week, in addition to our 8 pm Thursday and Friday performances, we've got a special performance of "Late Night Omnivores" at 10 pm Saturday. So for all you college kids, night owls, late comers, evening diners, or if you just like free pizza (Oh yeah, there's complimentary pizza at intermission!), come on our for our late show.

Final Weekend of Bootstraps at Luna Stage
August 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th @ 8pm

What the Star Ledger Says:
"Locals should be happy that these young artists have brought "Bootstraps," its first world premiere comedy, to Luna Stage Company, also in Montclair. Playwright Ben Clawson is a mere 24, though he has powers of observation usually possessed by those with substantially more life experience. For nearly two hours, he defines his characters by their truthful-sounding dialogue. Clawson already knows an important lesson that many comic writers never learn: The best way to get laughs is not by pouring on the gags, but by showing the quirky behavior of characters."
-Peter Filichia

Bootstraps page updates

There's some new pictures and video up, and we've been getting some press recently. All of that is on this page.

The show has been going great so far, and we can't wait to see you there.

More to come soon!

July 28 - 2008

Hey everyone,

We're very excited about our new play opening in August at Luna Stage, and we'd love to see you there.

Bootstraps tells the story of one night in the lives of four employees of the Branchhill Industrial Supply company -- a firm with the motto "Nothing We Can't Get;" guaranteeing to retrieve and supply you with whatever you need even when all the ethical options have been exhausted. On this particular night, the mythic and lauded position of Corporate Representative may have finally opened up. The two main heroes, Mike and Loudjack, will fight to secure their places for this cushy job with all the perks, but there can be only one Corporate Rep. The examination of what they won't do to get it is the center of this dark comedy about ambition, trust, and antique ice machines.

Tickets and more information can be found on this page. You can also get tickets at the door, they're $20 and there's a discount price of $15 for Luna Stage subscribers and students with id.

Thanks!
